Women in the Workplace: Equality & Balance, Myths & Realities

Nationally renown researcher Jamie Ladge, Ph.D. (The Shriver Report, Wall Street Journal, New York Times) speaks about her research on new mothers and fathers in the workplace, re-entry back to work and related topics of attitudes and policies surrounding pregnancy, parenthood, family and workplace support and career trajectories. Dr. Ladge will share insights from recent research projects and answer your questions about family/work balance and how best to advocate for your needs. Dr Ladge’s previous sessions have led to many spirited discussions and problem-solving. Take Dr. Ladge’s Families in the Workplace survey to participate in her current nationally-scoped research project. Ten Isis survey-takers will receive a $50 Isis Gift Card compliments of Dr. Ladge.



The Bilingual Child

Tuesday, 3/30 at 7:00 PM in Needham

This open format, interactive workshop focuses on the advantages of an immersive bilingual education and the benefits of raising bilingual children. Participants will hear from a panel of bilingual educators, parents with experience with monolingual children learning a second language, and those raising bilingual children. Bilingual children have the advantage of knowing and having experiences of two cultures, of being able to communicate with a wider variety of people, and of possible economic advantages in their future. Participants will gain an understanding of the long-range advantages of bilingual education experience including language proficiency; developing positive attitudes toward those who speak a foreign languages and cultures while developing strong English language skills. Participants will be able to dialogue with the panel members in their area of expertise, gain a better understanding of how children acquire a second language, and leave with practical real life applications of second language learning.
