Child Development Instructor

Isis Maternity is seeking instructors for the position of Child Development Instructor to lead groups in our popular Child Development Program. Openings are currently limited to those focusing on infant development, early childhood development experience is a must, but all applicants with child development experience are welcome to apply.

About the Position:

The Child Development Instructor is responsible for leading hour-long child development classes for children ranging in age from 6 months to 3 years. A typical “semester” runs from 8 to 14 weeks with the same parent/child pair attending each week. Classes run every day of the week including weekends. The instructors teach each session according to an established curriculum with activity and discussion details. Elements of each class include: circle time, a weekly activity or discussion topic, songs and other developmental play activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Class observations for training purposes
  • Weekly curriculum review and class planning
  • Room set up and break down
  • Facilitation of weekly discussion topics
  • Leading of songs, finger-plays, parachute games and other class activities
  • Classroom dynamics management (keeping the flow moving at an appropriate pace)
  • Attendance at monthly program meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Interest in helping parents and children grow
  • Comfort in a group/class setting
  • Enthusiastic and upbeat personality
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to keep both parents and children engaged

Credentials and Experience

  • A graduate degree in child development or related field
  • Early childhood degree or birth to three experience required
  • Experience and success in leading parent/child groups
  • Thorough understanding of child development and early childhood milestones
